Historically KWANZAA, (pronounced "kwahn-zuh),was created as a way of uniting and empowering the African-African community in the aftermath of the deadly Watts riots. It is a Swahili phrase, “matunda ya kwanzaa,” which means “first fruits.” and signifies the first fruits of the harvest. Now it is an annual celebration of life in African-American Culture.
